Dazzling Diversity
Div. III, First place, Studio Fine Craft
This piece is crafted with material available in my house/studio. The base is wooden paper towel holder wrapped in satin ribbon. Top is a tulle fabric-wrapped plastic bowl placed upside down to make it look dome like. Seven miniature kulfi matkis (Kulfi - a sort of ice cream like dessert from Indo-Pak subcontinent and matki is, say, a clay cooking pot). While eating ice cream out of these cute little containers a thought crossed my mind that why not put them to use rather than dispose them off. Thus, I looked around the studio, found rest of the items and put them together to create this piece. Naming it Dazzling Diversity was obvious, it being created with material of such diverse cultural and regional range.
