Wring of Life
This artwork was inspired by a towel being wrung by my grandson. The image in my mind made me think how we should be getting as much out of life as possible and that sometimes we experience struggle. My initial thought was to paint the image in acrylic on the canvas, but as I sketched in the image in the pastel grays over an acrylic underpainting, I liked how the contrasts looked on the canvas in this medium so I filled in details. Then I wanted to see what would happen if I used pastel pencils to add color in certain areas to show how water is essential to life and accentuate the contrast to depict the concept I was trying to communicate. The artwork has been sprayed with fixative and with a spray acrylic matte coat to protect the pastel s.ince it is not under glass
