The Gathering Div. II, Honorable Mention, Mixed Media

Cedar Wax wings are striking birds with Zoro like masks, that are very social, and most often seen in flocks feeding. I wanted to capture that behavior. My birds are hand sculpted with hallowed bodies out of clay and the legs of high temperature wire, fired then glazed with velvet underglaze custom mixed and fired again to cone 6 in an electric kiln. The birds are then mounted on a found branch that has been prepared, and feet are then sculpted out of a two part sculpture epoxy and painted with acrylic paint as needed to finish the birds.
