Much of my work features fantastical things that don't exist, so without direct references, I often don't get to dip into high levels of realism. With this piece, I wanted to really dig into the intricate details of my subject, the layers and layers of tiny feathers that make up the owl. Even with such a familiar creature, when you look closely enough, whole worlds of complexity reveal themselves.
